Night classes are ON at Northcote College
Quality education after school

Our printed brochure for the first two terms of 2012 is available at your local Library, Citizens Advice Bureau, or The Warehouse, Birkenhead. Or you can call us on 481-0144 or email info@learn4life.co.nz with your postal address and we'll post you a copy. Or you can download a printable copy here.

Term 2 starts from MONDAY 30 APRIL. Check out the great selection of courses here.

Term 2 offers a series of new classes to develop your creative side. Local artist, Heather Grouden will teach All About Colour and Still Life Painting while Julie Ferne is back with her Fun with Watercolour course. We have a new tutor, Anne Egan, who will teach a Mosaic class - bound to be popular so book in now - and we are delighted to have found a teacher for Ukulele for Beginners, Hayden Maskell, who is a teacher right here at Northcote College by day and plays in a band in his free time.

Keep up your fitness at Yoga or Pilates classes or if you prefer something more energetic join the party which is Zumba – 6.30pm Tuesday evenings – all ages welcome!

New cooking classes include Fresh Cheese Making, Baking up a Storm, Indian Cooking and Afternoon Tea a la Francaise. Limited places in these so make sure you book in early.

The tutor for NZ Sign Language for Beginners, which ran for the first time here in term 1, received rave reviews. And don't forget we offer a comprehensive range of foreign languages - great if you're planning a trip overseas.

Migrants are welcome to join our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Programme. And remember a great way to practise your English with "Kiwis" is to enrol in other classes like Art, Cooking, Yoga, Pilates or Zumba.

Secondary school students are now able to attend many of our classes. Call us to check on age restrictions and for further information.

Government Funding has been withdrawn so our courses must be self supporting. We aim to keep prices as reasonable as possible. Two places are available in each course at a reduced fee to those on a limited income, as evidenced by holding a Community Services Card or CSC-endorsed Gold Card.

It is thanks to support from the Birkenhead Licensing Trust and to your ongoing enrolments that we are able to continue to provide courses in 2012.

Stop Night Class Cuts!

Funding for Adult Community Education (ACE) in schools was cut by 80% at the end of 2009. The North Shore is not regarded by the Tertiary Education Commission as a community with a high need for ACE Funding.
If the increase in course fees means you cannot continue on your life-long learning journey please let your local MP, the Minister of Tertiary Education Hon Steven Joyce, the Minister of Finance, Hon Bill English and / or the Prime Minister, Hon John Key know how you feel about this decision. A personal letter (rather than an e-mail) is the most effective way to ensure your voice is heard. It is FREE if you address the letter to Freepost, Parliament Buildings, Private Bag 18-888, Wellington 6160.

You could also write a letter to the editor to your local newspaper, or call a Talkback Radio station. Or, if you are a Facebook Member, join the Facebook group, "Stop Night Class Cuts!" and tell your story.

Our most powerful weapon in the fight to reinstate ACE in schools across New Zealand is YOUR story of how attending a class has changed YOUR life.
